Adjustment safety

How to save and restore a bike setup

A reversible adjustment begins with a starting point you can actually restore.

01STARTING SETUP

Save the important details before changing anything

Before loosening anything, save the measurement, how you measured it, photos, the bike-part position, relevant tightening or clamp instructions, and the date. Make the record specific to the bike and part you are changing.

02ONE CHANGE

Avoid changing several things at once

Several changes at the same time make it harder to understand what caused a difference and harder to return to the earlier setup. Keep everything else the same while checking the current change.

03WAY BACK

Know when to return to your starting setup

Worsening symptoms, loss of control, a mechanically uncertain result, or a clearly worse ride should not push you to keep experimenting. Return to the saved starting setup when appropriate and seek qualified help.

  • Confirm the restored measurement
  • Compare the restored setup with the reference photo
  • Follow current manufacturer instructions
  • Record why you returned to the starting setup
